Grammar Tips:In Lithuanian numbers from 1 to 9 and 10 are unique and therefore need to be memorized individually. Numbers from 1 to 9 has gender as well. Numbers from 11 to 20 are formed by using the following pattern: stem of number + -(io)lika.
Example: 11 – vien-uolika; 12 – dvy-lika; 13 - try-lika; 14 – ketur-iolika; 15 – penk-iolika.
The tens are forming by ending dešimt (ten):
10 – dešimt, 20 – dvidešimt, 30 – trisdešimt, 40 - keturiasdešimt, …, 80 – aštuoniasdešimt, 90 – devyniasdešimt.
Other digits are formed simply adding number name: 21 = 20 1 – dvidešimt vienas, 47 = 40 7 – keturiasdešimt septyni.
The hundreds are compound mumerals:
100 – šimtas, 200 – du šimtai, 300 – trys šimtai, …, 900 devyni šimtai.
101 – šimtas vienas; 114 – šimtas keturiolika,
758 – septyni šimtai penkiasdešimt aštuoni (700 50 8)
The thousands keeps same forming:
1000 – tūkstantis, 2000 – du tūkstančiai, 10000 – dešimt tūkstančių, 11000 – vienuolika tūkstančių,
429 381 – keturi šimtai dvidešimt devyni tūkstančiai trys šimtai aštuoniasdešimt vienas.
Numerals are declensing and so they takes the number and gender of subject in the sentence:
2011 – du tūkstančiai vienuolika.
metai (year, years; in Lithuanian always plural)
Nominative: 2011 metai, du tūkstančiai vienuolikti metai – year 2011;
locative: 2011 metais, du tūkstančiai vienuoliktais metais – in the year 2011.
